Iuka, IL

Iuka is a village in Marion County, Illinois, United States. The 2020 census counted 512 residents. Iuka is located in eastern Marion County. U.S. Route 50 passes through the north side of the village, leading west 8 miles to Salem, the county seat, and east 17 miles to Flora. There is a limestone outcropping due southeast of Iuka that is one of the purported locations of Burrows Cave. Burrow claimed to have found numerous archeological artifacts in this cave inscribed in Ancient Egyptian and Greek. The through line in Iuka is the way its history and present-day settings remain visible on the same map. Iuka makes the most sense through those concrete details, with its history still visible in the settings people use today.
