Jackson Heights, NC

Jackson Heights is a 1.45-square-mile census-designated place in central Lenoir County, four miles southwest of Kinston. About 1,071 people lived here in 2020. NC 11 and NC 55 run together along the community's northwest edge before heading into Kinston; U.S. 258 passes just southeast, giving the area a close relationship with the county seat and the farms and crossroads beyond it. The roads are the clearest way to place Jackson Heights on the map, since the community is woven into the larger Kinston area instead of arranged around a separate downtown.

That highway corridor carries older Lenoir County history too. The Jesse Jackson House stands near the NC 11/55 junction, a nineteenth-century home associated with a planter who lived near the Neuse River west of Kinston. The community sits within Neuse Township, with Kinston supplying county services, schools, shopping, and the region's work routes. Jackson Heights is unincorporated, so its character comes from homes, side roads, and the shared landscape around a major route. It is a small slice of central Lenoir County, close enough to Kinston for daily errands while still oriented toward the road and countryside.
