About James Island
James Island is a town in Charleston County, occupying part of the larger island just southwest of Charleston. Its location puts residents close to downtown Charleston, Folly Beach, marshes, tidal creeks, and some of the Lowcountry's most recognizable scenery. The island also has Revolutionary War history, including one of the war's last armed actions in 1782. James Island feels residential and coastal at the same time, with ordinary neighborhoods, live oaks, water nearby, and Charleston's restaurants and jobs just across the bridges.
