Jamestown West, NY

Between the City of Jamestown and the villages of Celoron and Lakewood, Jamestown West—also known as West Ellicott—occupies a narrow part of Chautauqua County. The 2020 census counted 2,652 residents. Fairmount Avenue, carried by Route 394, is the place’s defining corridor: Ellicott’s comprehensive plan identifies it as the town’s largest concentration of commercial activity, and the big-box stores along the road draw shoppers from well beyond the CDP. That concentration makes this small CDP one of the most visible commercial addresses in the town.

That gives Jamestown West a practical role within the Jamestown area. Its local map is a mix of residential streets and a commercial strip that links the city, the lakeside villages, and the wider Town of Ellicott. The CDP’s name points west, yet its daily orientation is east along Fairmount Avenue, where retail, road access, and the county’s larger shopping pattern meet.
