Jefferson Heights is the unassuming edge of Catskill that carries much of the Greene County seat’s practical traffic. The CDP lies northwest of Catskill village, with NY 23 cutting across its northern side and the Thruway’s Exit 21 nearby. That puts the community on the route between the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, with the Rip Van Winkle Bridge just to the east. The 2020 population was 1,122, spread through a place that feels more like a working residential district than a stand-alone small town.

Its clearest landmark is the former community hospital, whose building now serves as a medical arts facility. That reuse sums up Jefferson Heights pretty well: it is close to Catskill’s services, highways, and river crossings, but its story is told through everyday institutions more than a main-street postcard. Route 23 carries people toward the bridge and Cairo, while the nearby Hudson connection keeps regional travel in the mix. For locals, the place is the Catskill side of a regional hinge—close to the village, close to the Thruway, and tied to the medical and commercial life around it.
