About Jefferson
Jefferson is a Chesterfield County town in the South Carolina Piedmont, where the region meets the Sandhills. The 2020 census counted 772 residents. South Carolina Routes 265 and 151 meet in town, putting Jefferson about eight miles south of Pageland, 16 miles northwest of McBee, and within the wider Charlotte region. The place began as Millersville or Miller’s Store in the late 1700s and early 1800s, then incorporated as Jefferson in 1904.
Main Street carries the historic core, with older homes, a library, churches, and a small downtown business district. The Jefferson Recreation Complex on Ogburn Drive gives the town five baseball fields, a walking trail, and space for youth teams; in 2012, about 400 area players joined 26 teams. Chesterfield County School District operates Jefferson Elementary, New Heights Middle, and Central High, while Northeastern Technical College adds a nearby higher-education connection. Jefferson’s map is a meeting point of routes, school buses, baseball diamonds, and the old Miller family farm landscape.
