Jeffersonville, GA

Jeffersonville is the county seat and largest city of Twiggs County, Georgia, near the state's geographic center. The county seat moved here from Marion in 1868, and the 2020 census counted 977 residents. Interstate 16 runs just south, linking the city with Macon and the Savannah direction. The city grew as an agricultural courthouse town, with pastures and ponds surrounding a compact center.

Jeffersonville's civic history includes fire, rebuilding, and long-running public services. The Twiggs County courthouse burned in 1901, destroying county records; the current courthouse stands on the same county-seat ground. After a fire destroyed the public library in 2010, a new library opened on Main Street in 2013. The volunteer fire department became Georgia's first state-certified volunteer department in 1962. Agriculture still frames the city, while light industry and the interstate connect Jeffersonville to the Macon metropolitan area. It is a small county center where courthouse, library, fire service, and highway links shape the daily map. The courthouse lawn, Main Street library, and fire station keep the county seat's civic functions close together.
