About Jerome
Jerome is a Union Township CDP in Howard County, Indiana, whose village plan predates its current Census designation. A Masonic lodge occupied the second floor of the township’s first frame school by the 1850s. In 1877, Jerome had six shops, two churches, and a school, and that year it was incorporated as a town. The railroad route through nearby Greentown later redirected regional growth. The school, lodge, shops, and original plat give Jerome a clear record of a small crossroads community shaped by early institutions and changing transportation.
