About Jones Creek

Jones Creek is a Brazoria County community with 1,975 residents in the 2020 census, running along State Highway 36 between Freeport and Brazoria. The community is tied to Peach Point, where Stephen F. Austin’s sister settled and where Austin planned to spend his final years. Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church and Cemetery preserve that connection, including the site of Austin’s original burial before his remains were moved to Austin. It’s a place where coastal plain roads carry a surprising amount of Texas origin story. Jones Creek is residential, with live oaks and pecan trees, and Brazosport ISD schools serve local children, including Stephen F.

Austin Elementary. The San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge and Peach Point Wildlife Management Area add birding, fishing, crabbing, and hunting to the nearby map, while Freeport remains six miles east for larger errands. Annual Christmas and National Pie Day celebrations give the community its own small-town signatures. Jones Creek is part of the Brazosport region, but Peach Point and the wildlife lands make its corner distinct.
