Jonesboro, IN

Jonesboro is a Grant County city on the Mississinewa River, across the water from Gas City. Obadiah Jones established the settlement in 1837, and the river valley later tied it to the region’s natural-gas boom, rail lines, and industrial growth. The city remains part of a shared two-community map with Gas City: streets, schools, work, and services cross the river even as Jonesboro keeps its own city government and Main Street.

Mississinewa Community Schools serves both Jonesboro and Gas City, with Westview Elementary in Jonesboro and older students attending schools in Gas City. The Jonesboro Public Library, historical society, churches, local businesses, and the river give the city a set of places that keep daily life close to town. The Mississinewa forms the city’s western edge and its strongest visual reference, while the roads connect the community to Marion, Upland, and the rest of Grant County. Jonesboro is a river city with a shared school district and a distinct local name.
