Jonesville, NC

Above the Yadkin River, Jonesville grew from Allen's Settlement behind the river bluffs. It was incorporated as Martinsborough in 1811 and renamed Jonesville in 1815 for local resident Hardy Jones. The early settlement had an iron forge and sat along routes that connected the western Carolina frontier with communities to the east; the river and bluff still give the town its physical character. Jonesville now sits in the Yadkin Valley, with roads leading toward the Blue Ridge Mountains and wineries in the Swan Creek and Yadkin Valley wine regions. Bicentennial Park includes a Tri-County Veterans' Memorial listing over 3,000 names, and the 2001 merger with Arlington remains part of the town's modern outline. River geography, old iron work, and a large regional memorial give Jonesville a distinct foothill map.
