Josephville, MO

Josephville is a St. Charles County village about 35 miles west of St. Louis. The 2020 census counted 512 residents. A post office opened here in 1875 and stayed until 1910, and the village took its name from its first postmaster, Joseph Wilmes. That history gives Josephville a particular shape: a named settlement along county roads and farm fields, with the mail stop marking the old center even as the surrounding county has filled in with subdivisions and commuter routes.

Most of Josephville lies in the Fort Zumwalt R-II School District, with a small portion in Wentzville R-IV. The village sits inside a county known for German immigration and older farming communities, but it is also within the daily orbit of O'Fallon, Wentzville, and St. Charles. There is no need to invent a downtown here. Josephville's local scoop is the contrast between a nineteenth-century post-office village and the larger suburban service map now surrounding it: the name remains small, specific, and tied to the roads west of St. Louis.
