Keams Canyon, AZ

Tucked into a scenic canyon in northeastern Arizona, Keams Canyon is a quiet, tight-knit community on the Hopi Reservation. Located about 150 miles northeast of Flagstaff, the town originally grew around an 1870s trading post that served as a busy meeting spot for neighboring Hopi and Navajo communities. Today, it offers peaceful high-desert living surrounded by dramatic sandstone mesas, open skies, and deep cultural roots.

Despite its small population, Keams Canyon functions as an important service and educational center for the area. It is home to Keams Canyon Elementary as well as Hopi Junior/Senior High School, along with local government and healthcare offices. For dining, lodging, and traditional Hopi artwork, residents often head a short drive west along Highway 264 to the Hopi Cultural Center at Second Mesa. It makes for a calm, friendly, and deeply rooted place to live in the heart of Arizona's mesa country.
