About Kellogg

Kellogg is a Jasper County city of 606 residents at the 2020 census, and it has changed names before settling into this one. The place was laid out in 1865 for the railroad, then became Manning's Station, Jasper City, and Kimball before taking the name of pioneer settler Judge Abel Avery Kellogg. The Mississippi and Missouri Railroad arrived in 1866, turning the planned station into a town shaped by the rail line.

Today, the Kellogg Historical Society keeps that layered past in a nine-building museum complex on High Street. The grounds include an original one-room schoolhouse and a country church, so a visit feels more like moving through a small town than browsing a single room. Highway 224 marks the eastern edge, while the North Skunk River runs along the southern side. Kellogg is a place where the old map is still easy to read: railroad town in the center, river at the edge, museum buildings holding the pieces together.
