Kersey, CO

Kersey is a Weld County statutory town on U.S. 34, three miles east of Greeley, at the edge of irrigated agriculture and the Eastern Plains. The 2020 census counted 1,495 residents. Elbridge Gerry ran Fort Gerry trading post on the South Platte near here in the 1830s, but Kersey's town story began with a railroad stop called Orr in 1894; it became Kersey when the town incorporated in 1908. The name changed, the rail line stayed central, and irrigation made farming the daily backdrop.

The Kersey Historical Museum ties the town together through exhibits on the railroad, ranching, farming, dairy, the Hardin Store, old schools, and the Latham Ditch, the area's agricultural lifeline. The museum sits on First Street near the town's civic core. Kersey also has a library, senior center, recreation department, community center, and Platte Valley School District in its local service map.
