Keys, OK

Keys is a Cherokee County community south of Tahlequah, where Oklahoma State Highway 82 runs along the western and southern edge of the CDP. The eastern side reaches the Illinois River at the northern end of Tenkiller Ferry Lake, giving the community a water boundary as distinctive as its road network. Park Hill lies to the north and Pettit to the south, while Tahlequah supplies county-seat services and a larger regional center.

Keys Public School gives the community its main institution and a shared daily focus, with a cougar mascot and red-and-white colors. Just down the highway, Cherokee Landing State Park occupies a peninsula on Lake Tenkiller in the Cookson Hills, with campsites and water access. That combination of school, river, lake, and highway makes Keys feel tied to both Cherokee County's inland communities and the lake country to the east. The area is spread out, with no dense commercial center, so local routines involve short drives, school events, fishing, boating, camping, and trips to Tahlequah. Keys is a small Oklahoma community whose edges are defined by water and woods.
