About Tahlequah
Tahlequah is a historic city set in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and the county seat of Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Established in 1839 as the capital of the Cherokee Nation following the forced removal of Native Americans on the Trail of Tears, the city of approximately 16,900 serves as the modern capital of the Cherokee Nation and the United Keetoowah Band. The town is home to the main campus of Northeastern State University.
