Kinston, AL

Kinston is a small, quiet community in southern Coffee County, Alabama, home to around 700 residents. It sits at the crossroads of Highways 52 and 189, giving locals a relaxed rural setting while keeping U.S. 331 just a short drive to the west. Geneva State Forest borders the southern edge of town, putting thousands of acres of south Alabama pine woods and outdoor recreation practically in the backyard. Much of the community revolves around Kinston School, which teaches kindergarten through twelfth grade under one roof and shares a long, proud basketball tradition behind the Bulldogs.

The town got its start in the late nineteenth century as a crossroads settlement called Cross Trails, cycling through the names Boone and Pink before officially becoming Kinston in 1912. Its early growth was driven by family farms, timber mills, and the arrival of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad around the turn of the century. Today, Kinston preserves that simple country pace, shaped by open farmland, local history, and friendly neighbors who turn out to support the school.
