Kirby, AR

Kirby is an unincorporated Pike County community on U.S. Route 70, where the 2020 census counted 721 residents. It sits about halfway between Daisy and Glenwood and six miles east of Daisy State Park on Lake Greeson. Before Kirby, the settlement was called Cross Roads because two wagon trails met there; the later name honors Joseph Lytal Kirby, who lived in nearby Red Land. Kirby was never incorporated, so the community remains a named settlement along the highway and lake.

Narrows Dam, built after World War II across the Little Missouri River, changed the surrounding landscape by creating Lake Greeson for flood control and hydropower. Daisy State Park opened on the lake's north shore in 1955, and Kirby Landing Marina gives the community a direct waterfront connection. The Kirby School District survived countywide consolidation, with the Trojans competing in maroon and gray. Kirby's map brings together old wagon routes, a reservoir, a state park, school buses, and the highway between Daisy and Glenwood.
