Kirtland, NM

Kirtland is a San Juan County town in the Four Corners region, part of the Farmington metropolitan area and surrounded by the broad desert, mesas, and river-country landscapes of northwest New Mexico. Mormon settlers established the community in the early 1880s and named it for Kirtland, Ohio, linking the town's name to an earlier church center. Fruitland was already home to Mormon settlers by the late 1870s, and the two communities sit close together in the same western San Juan County network.
