Klondike Corner, NH

Klondike Corner is a New Boston CDP with 652 residents at the 2020 census. The name belongs to the southeastern corner of town, where Chestnut Hill Road meets Bedford Road and where the New Boston Air Force Station begins just to the south. Bog Brook drains the area toward the Piscataquog River, so even the short geographic description has a lot of New Hampshire in it: crossroads, small streams, wooded land, and town boundaries close together.

The name has its own little story. New Boston historian Clifford Dawson lived near the junction in the late nineteenth century, then went to Alaska in 1896 after catching gold fever. Whether his adventure paid off is lost to time, but he named the corner Klondike to remember the trip. Today the CDP sits about ten miles west of downtown Manchester and remains tied to New Boston by its roads and town services. Klondike Corner is a place-name with a real crossroads behind it, not a miniature western boomtown: the Alaska reference is the flourish, while the New Hampshire road network is the everyday story.
