Knollcrest, CT

Knollcrest is a small census-designated place on a peninsula along the western side of Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield, Fairfield County. The lake shapes the community’s map: water on three sides, Squantz Cove across the way, and wooded roads leading back into the town. New Fairfield’s rural history changed when Connecticut Light & Power created Candlewood Lake for hydroelectric generation in the late 1920s. The new shoreline turned former upland and valley land into a summer and residential landscape.

Life in Knollcrest follows the lake through boating, swimming, fishing, docks, and the seasonal arrival of people who use their homes as weekend or summer bases. New Fairfield supplies town services, schools, library programs, and connections to Danbury and the New York border, while Candlewood Lake provides the strongest shared calendar. The peninsula’s roads and houses feel more like a neighborhood on the water than an independent village, but the name has its own place in the town’s geography. Knollcrest is defined by the shoreline, the wooded interior, and the long afterlife of a dam project that remade New Fairfield.
