Kooskia, ID

Kooskia sits right where the Middle and South forks of the Clearwater River come together in north-central Idaho. For centuries, this junction served as a prime gathering, fishing, and travel spot for the Nez Perce, whose language inspired the town's name. Originally platted as Stuart, the settlement adopted the name Kooskia when the railroad arrived around 1900, quickly establishing itself as a supply point for local homesteaders, loggers, and ranchers.

Today, Highway 12 runs right through town, making Kooskia a convenient stop for anyone heading into the rugged Lochsa corridor and the Bitterroot Mountains.
