About Kulpmont

Kulpmont is a Northumberland County borough in the Western Middle Anthracite Field, but it was not built as a single-company patch town. It developed as an open residential hub near the coal workings, drawing Italian, Irish, Polish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Jewish, and other families into the same small borough. The Mount Carmel Area School District serves the community today. Kulpmont is central Pennsylvania coal country with a broader town pattern: mining nearby, but the borough’s identity shaped by many households rather than one company.
