About La Monte
La Monte sits in Pettis County along Missouri Route 127 just north of U.S. 50, about eleven miles northwest of Sedalia. The town began as Boomer, was platted in 1866, and took the La Monte name in 1870 when the railroad reached the neighborhood. That switch in names mirrors the town's early pattern: a small settlement gaining a new identity and a stronger connection to the regional rail network.
Today, La Monte's school remains one of its most visible institutions, with La Monte Elementary and High School serving the Vikings in black and gold. The town is close enough to Sedalia for larger shopping, work, and cultural trips, while Knob Noster and the state park country open another direction west. The surrounding landscape is a mix of farm fields, roads, and railroad traces, and the old Boomer-to-La Monte story still gives the community a memorable local beginning. The rail line and Route 127 still place the city in the middle of Pettis County's north-south movement.
