Laguna, NM

Laguna is located about 45 minutes west of Albuquerque in Cibola County, right along Interstate 40 and historic Route 66. As the central village of the Laguna Pueblo, it is home to around 1,300 residents and serves as the hub of a sovereign Native community with roots dating back centuries. The setting offers vast high-desert views, sandstone hills, and a quiet, close-knit atmosphere, while the highway keeps the area well connected to the larger metro area to the east.

The focal point of the village is the San Jose de la Laguna Mission, an adobe church built in 1699 that still overlooks the surrounding valley from its hilltop perch. Cultural traditions remain central to the community, with annual feast days, dances, and local artisan markets celebrating Keresan heritage throughout the year. Handcrafted pottery and traditional arts are common fixtures across the village and neighboring settlements like Mesita and Paraje.

Local families are served by schools like Laguna Elementary and Laguna-Acoma Middle-High School, while tribal administration, education, and roadside services along I-40 provide local jobs.
