Lake Bungee, CT

Lake Bungee is a census-designated place in southwestern Woodstock, arranged around a private lake of the same name. The lake was established in the 1950s under Joe Campert's vision, and the community now includes approximately 400 properties. The lake covers about 112 acres, with an average depth of 5.2 feet and a maximum depth of 12.5 feet. The 2020 census counted 601 residents, and Lake Bungee first appeared as a CDP before that census.

The shoreline is the organizing feature. Boating, fishing, and hiking are established uses, while property owners elect a community board each May. The Lake Bungee Tax District handles tax matters, and a separate Flood and Erosion Control Board manages those concerns. Community property includes beaches, swimming areas, docks, a boat launch, tennis court, ball field, playgrounds, and clubhouse. Those shared spaces make the lake feel like the address and the neighborhood at once. Lake Bungee is a private residential community whose internal boards and shared facilities matter as much as the town boundary around it.
