Lake Eliza, IN

Lake Eliza is an unincorporated Porter County community and census-designated place built around a natural lake of the same name. It lies in western Porter County, eight miles north of Hebron, eight miles southwest of Valparaiso, and seventeen miles southeast of Gary. The lake's outlet leaves from its south end and flows into Wolf Creek, part of the Kankakee River watershed leading to the Illinois River.

The community's geography is lake-centered: residential streets circle the water, while farms and county roads lead toward Hebron, Valparaiso, and the wider Chicago region. The outlet gives Lake Eliza a water connection beyond its shoreline, carrying the local drainage toward the Kankakee and Illinois Rivers. Lake Eliza has no incorporated city grid; its address is the lake, the surrounding neighborhoods, and the roads connecting them to the county seat and nearby cities. The place is defined by a natural basin and the low-key road network that grew around it. The lake remains the clearest point of orientation for anyone arriving from the county roads.
