Lake Mohawk, NJ

Lake Mohawk is a Sussex County community built around a private lake in Sparta Township and Byram Township. Its defining feature dates to 1924, when tributary streams and natural springs near the Wallkill River were impounded to create the lake. The surrounding planned community developed with a distinctive resort feel, and parts of it are recognized as a historic district. Lake Mohawk is residential and scenic, with club facilities, lakefront homes, wooded roads, and a stronger vacation-colony flavor than many inland New Jersey suburbs.
