Peninsulas and coves organize Lake Norman of Iredell more clearly than a civic core does. The Census boundary takes in several projections of southwestern Iredell County into Lake Norman, the Catawba River reservoir formed behind Cowans Ford Dam in 1963. In 2020, 11,395 people lived within its 10.12 square miles. Although the 2010 count was 7,411, the footprint then covered 23.84 square miles, so the two totals do not describe identical territory. Census estimates for 2020 through 2024 put owner occupancy at 94.9 percent across 4,580 households and the mean trip to work at 29.9 minutes. Those measures fit a lake-peninsula community where home, road, and water access matter more than a central square. Stumpy Creek Park gives the area an 83-acre public recreation site off Perth Road.

Its boat landing opens directly onto Lake Norman, while the rest of the park supports baseball, softball, soccer, picnics, play, a walking track, and a 19-hole disc-golf course. Another practical gathering place arrived in 2022, when Mooresville Public Library opened its West Branch at 614 Brawley School Road. The town created the branch to bring books and technology closer to people in the 28117 ZIP code instead of requiring a trip across Mooresville to the main library. It includes a drive-through pickup window, computers, study and meeting rooms, and several work areas. The park and library serve different parts of local routine: one connects the road network to the reservoir, and the other brings an everyday public service into the western lake corridor.
