About Lake Tapawingo
Lake Tapawingo is a Jackson County city built around the lake that gave it its name. The Lake Tapawingo Development Company laid out the community in 1926 on 315 wooded acres, marketing it as a sports retreat and rest haven. The city incorporated in 1962 to avoid annexation by Blue Springs or Independence, and the lake remains the organizing feature of the map, from the country club to city government. The Blue Springs R-IV School District serves the community, while Metropolitan Community College includes the district in its tax area. The local shorthand is lake, 1926 development, city boundary, and Blue Springs orbit.
