About Lake View

Lake View is a Sac County city on the east side of Black Hawk Lake, the 957-acre natural glacial lake that gives the community its daily geography. Settlers arrived in the area in the 1860s, and the present name was chosen for the view over Wall Lake before the town was incorporated. Black Hawk State Park sits along the shoreline, with Civilian Conservation Corps structures, campgrounds, boat ramps, fishing access, and the Stubb Severson Nature Trail. The lake is where recreation, seasonal events, and local infrastructure all overlap.

Lake View holds a Water Carnival in July and an Arctic Open golf event in February, giving the shoreline a calendar in both warm and cold weather. The north end of the 33-mile Sauk Rail Trail starts at Black Hawk Lake and runs through Carnarvon, Breda, and Maple River toward Swan Lake south of Carroll. Much of the trail follows an abandoned railroad bed, so the old transportation network still carries cyclists, hikers, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers. East Sac County schools, lake businesses, campgrounds, and the trail keep Lake View tied to both the surrounding farm country and the water at its edge.
