Lakeland North, WA

Lakeland North occupies a narrow unincorporated part of South King County between Auburn and Federal Way, with Kent to the north and Interstate 5 along its western side. Lake Geneva supplies the community's clearest natural landmark, while the surrounding street network ties into several neighboring cities rather than a separate municipal center. The 3.25-square-mile census-designated place had 13,663 residents in 2020. Census estimates for 2020–2024 show 4,956 households, an average household size of 3.20, 71.7 percent owner occupancy, and a median owner-occupied value of $557,000. Monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $2,454, and median gross rent was $2,340. The same estimates found that 32.7 percent of residents were born outside the United States and 42.6 percent of people age five and older spoke a language other than English at home. Much of the public outdoor space is county-run. On Lake Geneva's northeastern shore, the public park combines woods and wetland with a grassy field, picnic shelter, play area, and a launch limited to non-gas-powered boats; the lake is stocked with rainbow trout and also supports largemouth bass.

A second 20-acre county park is now being designed on land between Auburn and Federal Way. Plans call for trails, a nature-based playground, shelters, restrooms, art, and parking, with additional community design work in 2026 and construction anticipated to begin in 2027. Regional transportation changed recently as well. Sound Transit opened the Federal Way Link extension in December 2025, bringing 1 Line service to Star Lake Station just west of I-5 near South 272nd Street. The station has a 1,105-space garage and connects toward Sea-Tac Airport and Seattle; its stops also serve local and regional bus routes. These facilities make the community's county and regional relationships visible in everyday recreation and travel.
