Lakeshire, MO

Lakeshire is a small city in Concord Township, in the western part of St. Louis County. The 2020 census counted 1,554 residents. It became a Missouri fourth-class city after an April 1951 election, which is a pretty good clue to the place's character: a compact residential community that chose to keep its own city hall, wards, police, and municipal code instead of blending into the county. Its small scale is the point: city boundaries, apartment clusters, and neighborhood streets all fit into one close-in St. Louis address. The city has no conventional downtown; its map is mostly residential streets, stone entrance markers, mature trees, condos, apartments, and single-family homes.

The south side includes 149 multi-family buildings, while local services and neighborhood rules are handled through the city government on Puttington Drive. It sits close enough to St. Louis to feel part of the metro's everyday orbit without looking like a separate town center.
