Lamberton, MN

Lamberton is a Redwood County city of 792 people at the 2020 census, platted in 1873 and named for railroad official Henry Wilson Lamberton. A post office has served the town since that year, and U.S. 14 still gives it an east-west orientation, linking Lamberton with Springfield to the east and Revere to the west. The highway and the railroad are the clearest clues to how this settlement grew in southwestern Minnesota: as a place where farm country moved people and goods through town.

That transportation role remains visible in the city's working landscape. The DM&E Railroad offers daily freight service, and the city maintains an industrial park for businesses that use the line. Lamberton's connection to agriculture is visible too: the University of Minnesota Southwest Research and Outreach Center is based here and combines agricultural research with a weather station that tracks and distributes local weather information. A farmers market, downtown community center, and Kuhar Park camping give the city present-day civic and outdoor routines alongside its production and research work.
