Lamesa is a city and the county seat of Dawson County, Texas, situated on the Llano Estacado south of Lubbock. Founded in 1903 as a cotton farming hub and hosting the annual Chicken Fried Steak Festival, the agricultural community of approximately 8,393 is served by the Lamesa Independent School District locally.
