Langlois, OR

Langlois is a Curry County community on the southern Oregon Coast, established in 1881 along U.S. 101. Its older economy included a blue-cheese factory that burned in the 1950s and was never rebuilt. The highway’s best-known local stop has a newer history: after the sawmill era, the Langlois Market began serving its hot dog in 1981. The market still makes its own sweet mustard and prepares the specially peeled frankfurters that remain its defining item.

U.S. 101 also carries the places residents use week to week. The Langlois Public Library is at 48234 Highway 101 and runs Tuesday through Saturday, with a book club dating to 2005, all-ages playtime, museum displays, master-gardener clinics, and community outreach. The market is open seven days a week, giving Langlois a grocery and hot-dog counter on the coast road. One store and one library do a lot of work here: together, they put food, books, local programs, and a familiar highway address at the center of daily errands.
