Lannon, WI

Lannon is a Waukesha County village in the Milwaukee metro, a place whose name is tied to limestone as much as to its founder. The 2020 census counted 1,355 residents. William N. Lannon settled here in 1842, the postal name arrived in 1890, and the village incorporated in 1930 after carving out a smaller piece of the Town of Menomonee. Quarry workers, the railway, and Joseph Hadfield's planned blocks gave the center its early shape; locals even called part of it Stone City. Today Lannon stone and the old quarries still give the village its look. Menomonee Park occupies a former quarry area, and the Bug Line Trail follows an old railway route into the wider Waukesha County trail network.

In 1979, Joecks Field hosted ESPN's first live broadcast, a men's slo-pitch game. Most of Lannon is in Hamilton School District, with a portion in Menomonee Falls School District. Lannon Road and Good Hope Road do much of the connecting, while Milwaukee is close enough for regional trips. Lannon's local scoop is a village built from springs, stone, quarry jobs, and a railway, with those layers still visible in the streets and parks.
