About Lansford

Lansford is a Carbon County borough in the Panther Creek Valley, pressed against Coaldale across the county line. The Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company controlled much of the valley, and anthracite mining turned the patch-town landscape into a working borough named for Asa Lansford Foster. The No. 9 Mine, which operated from 1855 to 1972, now opens the coal story through tours and a museum. Lansford is northeastern Pennsylvania where the old mine, the county border, and the valley's coal geometry are all still visible.
