Laplace, LA

LaPlace is a large census-designated place in St. John the Baptist Parish, set along the east bank of the Mississippi River west of New Orleans. The Chitimacha lived in the region before European colonization, and the river has long shaped settlement, industry, and movement through the area. Today LaPlace is part of the New Orleans metro, with a practical River Parishes identity tied to highways, refineries, neighborhoods, and the broad sweep of the Mississippi.
