Lapwai, ID

Located about fifteen minutes east of Lewiston, Lapwai is a small community set in a scenic valley along Highway 95. With a population of around 1,200, the town serves as the government and cultural center of the Nez Perce Reservation. Its name comes from the Nez Perce word for butterflies, giving the area its long-held nickname, the Valley of Butterflies. It is a quiet, rural spot with deep roots in regional history, located just minutes from the Nez Perce National Historical Park visitor center.
