About Laurel Heights
Laurel Heights is a census-designated place in northern Cumberland County, in southwestern Upper Deerfield Township, about two miles north of Bridgeton. Sunset Lake borders the CDP on the west, and the township’s rural, agricultural landscape extends around it. The 2020 census counted 380 residents. Laurel Heights is one of several named communities within Upper Deerfield, which was incorporated in 1922 from parts of Deerfield Township and lies directly north of the county seat.
Upper Deerfield mixes preserved farmland, farm-related business, open space, and newer residential development. Students in Laurel Heights are served by Upper Deerfield Township School District and Cumberland Regional School District. Municipal business is handled at the township building at 1325 Highway 77 in Seabrook, another named place in the township, while Bridgeton supplies the county courthouse and larger civic center two miles south. The township’s broad pattern keeps Laurel Heights connected to both farm country and settled neighborhoods. The geography puts residential streets, farm land, township services, and the county-seat neighbor within one short local area.
