About Laurel Lake

Laurel Lake is a Cumberland County CDP within Commercial Township, with 2,861 residents in the 2020 census and a place in the Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton metro. The lake community began as a summer resort promoted around 1927, then grew into year-round homes that now account for about half of Commercial Township's population. The broader development also reaches into Millville, so the local map is a lake neighborhood shared across municipal lines. The lake is the organizing fact. The Laurel Lake Property Owners Association has maintained the water and grounds since 1927, with member access for swimming, piers, boating, and fishing, plus a hall and pier that can be rented for gatherings.

An annual assessment helps pay for dams and other shared infrastructure, making the water system part of ordinary neighborhood administration. Commercial Township's wider story still runs through the Maurice River and Delaware Bay, while Laurel Lake has its own center: a private lake, an association, and year-round homes arranged around them.
