Lawtey, FL

Lawtey sits on U.S. 301 in northern Bradford County, seven miles north of Starke and about 45 miles southwest of Jacksonville. Families from Chicago established the community in 1877, and Lawtey incorporated in 1905. U.S. 301 remains the town's defining piece of geography, carrying traffic between Starke, Baldwin, and the wider north Florida road network. Bradford County's older agricultural base - cotton, tobacco, and strawberries - gives that highway corridor a rural setting, even as the route handles the daily movement through town.

City Hall on Lake Street is the civic address for the present-day city. The City Commission handles development, infrastructure, and public safety, and the police department provides local law enforcement along the U.S. 301 corridor. Starke remains the county seat just south, while Camp Blanding is part of the broader Bradford County map. Lawtey's local shape is easy to understand from the road: a small municipality built around an old farm county's main north-south route, with city business and public safety organized close to the highway.
