About Lawton

Lawton is a Woodbury County city seven miles east of Sioux City on US 20, set among the rolling farmland of the Sioux City metro. The town was platted in 1901 and named for J. C. Law, an early settler from Lawton, Michigan. The Lawton-Bronson Community School District grew from a 1966 merger and still divides its grade levels across the two towns, with elementary classes in Bronson and junior-senior high school in Lawton. In Lawton, the school campus sits beside a community fitness center, football and baseball fields, and Tara Way Park. The city also supports a volunteer ambulance service covering the town and two surrounding townships, extending its local services beyond the city limits.
