About Leachville
Leachville sits on Buffalo Island in the Arkansas Delta, south of Big Lake and near the Missouri line. James Honnoll, Joshua Leach, and Sam McNamee started the town's 1890s story, with a sawmill and two railroad lines arriving soon after; Leachville incorporated in 1916. The old depot at Second and McNamee streets is a reminder of when rail set the town's pace. Today the place shares Buffalo Island Central schools with nearby communities, while farms, drainage ditches, and flood history show the shape of the surrounding land. Leachville is one of those Delta towns where the map makes more sense once you think in terms of water, timber, rail, and the neighbors down the road.
