Lebanon Junction, KY

Lebanon Junction is a Bullitt County home rule city on the southeast edge of Fort Knox, where Interstate 65 meets the old railroad town. The 2020 census counted 1,746 residents. The city began as a switching point on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, splitting traffic from the main line onto the Lebanon Branch in 1858. Railroad workers, a terminal, and a business district followed; after a 1912 fire destroyed much of downtown, the town rebuilt. The Rolling Fork forms the city's southwest boundary and the county line, while I-65 now brings the traffic that the railroad once supplied.

Exit 105 leads toward downtown, and an L&N caboose on display keeps the junction story visible. The old school gym and a 1937 flood belong to the town's memory too, but today's commercial activity clusters around the interstate. Lebanon Junction's local scoop is a Kentucky railroad town whose center shifted from the tracks to the highway without losing the junction in its name.
