Leedey, OK

Leedey is a quiet, close-knit farming town of about 400 people located in western Oklahoma's Dewey County. Sitting along Highway 34, it offers wide-open prairie scenery and a relaxed, rural pace roughly thirty miles north of Elk City and Interstate 40. The community traces its roots back to 1900, when early settler Amos Leedey established the area's first post office, before growing into a busy agricultural hub with the arrival of the railroad a decade later.

Agriculture and energy remain central to daily life here, with local grain elevators, ranches, and oil fields driving the local economy. The town carries a strong sense of pride and resilience, having rebuilt itself through community effort after a devastating tornado swept through in 1947.
