Leipsic, DE

Tucked along the tidal Leipsic River just north of Dover, Leipsic is a tiny, historic village with fewer than 200 residents. Originally founded in the late 1700s as a shipping port for local watermen and farmers, the town has held onto its maritime roots for generations. While boats once hauled oysters, grain, and furs up and down the coast, the waterfront today serves as a quiet, scenic anchor for the community.

Life here moves at a relaxed pace shaped by the river and surrounding wetlands. Leipsic borders the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, giving neighbors easy access to untouched marshes, peaceful fishing spots, and world-class birdwatching. Between the historic homes along Main Street, a tight-knit volunteer fire company, and Dover only a short drive away for everyday errands, it offers a quiet waterside retreat with plenty of small-town character.
