About Leland Grove
Leland Grove is a Sangamon County city in central Illinois with 1,454 residents in the 2020 census, pressed directly against Springfield on a compact 0.63-square-mile footprint. The city grew from several subdivisions that incorporated in 1950 to improve roads that were still mostly dirt, then expanded through later annexations. Chatham Road and the Springfield border do most of the orienting here; the city is part of the Springfield metropolitan area without being absorbed into it. Leland Grove’s present-day map is tied to that edge position.
City offices and the police department operate at 2000 Chatham Road near Cherry Road, just beside Springfield, while SMTD Route 8 connects the city with downtown Springfield and other destinations. The compact footprint keeps municipal business close at hand, and the Springfield border puts larger city destinations just beyond the local streets. The local scoop is a city built out of suburban roads, where a short trip crosses from local government into Springfield’s wider network.
